WAVERLEY AT BLAIRMORE

Saturday 18th October saw the paddle steamer WAVERLEY at Blairmore Pier for the last time in 2008 for a sailing up Loch Goil and Loch Long.  The WAVERLEY originally sailed this route in 1947.  Apart from the first 20 minutes when it was quite wet, the afternoon was dry and bright, so the scenery was amazing, with autumn colours showing the hills and forests off in their full glory.  The ever changing sky gave brightness and shade, with several rainbows too, to add to the delightful spectacle.  Pipe Major Colin Prentice played pipes as the WAVERLEY arrived at Blairmore Pier and then again when she left, as well as playing on deck during the cruise.  Enjoy the pictures!

Here's a photo opportunity to write home about!

Blairmore Pier, which was refurbished a couple of years ago.  Good job! Well done to all involved.

Views of Loch Long, with Arrochar in the distance.

Checkout the great scenery in the background!  The piper's not bad too!

'Til next year then - if you missed out this year, book early for 2009, and enjoy priceless scenery in style!

DAPB IN IRELAND! (AKA David's pre-nuptial tour with the band)

Every trip begins with a ferry......or two....if you live where we do!  And if your band has a few experienced fishermen in it, like ours does, they make sure we take in plenty of anti-scurvy drinks while we're on tour.  Knowledgeable lot this crew!

Now to the competition day!  Even our bus driver gets in on some of the action - as the sole male drummer in Ireland, Jim King soon succumbed to the mandatory 'pony-tail' to keep his hair tidy!  Not so sure about his feelings about the pink scrunchy though!  Its in a good cause, Jim!!

Well, that's the performance over...not much to say about that!  Not our day, sadly!  Never mind....where's the BBQ!

Didn't we have a luverly day, the day we went to Bangor!

Here's a thing....if you don't like what the judges say, and think you can do better, get a pen, paper and a good pub, and give it a go!! (Ever watched Chucklevision??!)

PS....a few of the girlies in the band got t-shirts made up.....but this was the only one fit for viewing on our website!!  The committee denies all foreknowledge of this activity, and has nothing to say about it...even though our Chairman posed for a picture with them all!! (see Bebo, if you really must!)

PPS   This was David's last trip with the band before his wedding.  Hope it was as memorable for him as it was for the rest of us...the Ireland trip I mean!

PPPS   Last one - honest!  David's last supper with the band before he got married!  Now who's been with the sherry too long?  David's the one still in band kit, whilst the rest of us got changed...well..some of us did.

WHAT CAN WE SAY!!?!

Every band has their fair share of comedians, but we seem overloaded with them!

Question:- who does this drum belong to?    Answer:- none of you, so put it back!

A new sponsor for 2007!!

This picture shows players from both our grade 3 and grade 4 bands preparing in the Pipe Band hall before going out to play round some of the town's hotels as part of our annual spring fundraiser.
